585th Ohio Army National Guard Coming Through Plain City on Friday, August 13, Around Noon.

The 585th Ohio Army National Guard Military Police Unit will be returning home this Friday, August 13. They have been in Iraq for a year, assisting in rebuilding the country. They left the Marysville Training and Community Center last year on August 16.

The Union County Military Family Support Group and the Union County Veterans Service Office are encouraging Union County residents to line the route the 585th will take on their way home to Marysville in order to welcome these brave service people back into our community. The troops will be coming from I-70 using U. S. 42 heading north through Plain City (along the bypass). The bus convoy, which will be escorted by police, will then head from Route 42 northwest along Industrial Parkway, west on Fifth Street in Marysville, north on Main Street (through Uptown Marysville), north on U.S. 31 (Ellwood Avenue to North Maple Street), then left on Amrine Mill Road to Marysville High School. There will be a one hour community ceremony at around 1 pm to celebrate the 585th’s homecoming at the Marysville High School Football Field. The public is invited attend.

The 585th bus convoy is expected to arrive in Plain City between 11:30 am to 12 pm on Friday the 13th (not an unlucky day, at all). We would like to ask everyone to line the parade route in Plain City. The caravan will come in to Plain City on Route 42 and follow the bypass out of town to Industrial Parkway. The Plain City VFW and American Legion will furnish flags to everyone. The flags can be picked up in front of Plain City Lanes Bowling Alley starting at 11 am on Friday. People should be in place along 42 by 11:30 am to welcome the troops home.
