Community Care Day on Tuesday, May 17.

It is time once again to help spruce up Plain City after the ravages of snow, rain, and overgrown weeds have left their mark on the streets and sidewalks. UPCO (Uptown Plain City Organization) is partnering with the United Way of Union County for Community Care Day 2011 on Tuesday, May 17, to not only clean up Plain City, but to also allow volunteers to help with other activities benefitting seniors, libraries, parks, and other community landmarks.

UPCO is also looking for people to coordinate events in the Plain City area. If you are interested in participating, please visit the UPCO web page HERE to find out more.

For a list of community projects you can help with, visit the United Way of Union County’s web site HERE.

On Wednesday, May 11, from 7-8 p.m. the Plain City Police Department will present free community training on “Business Crime Prevention Tips” at the Pleasant Valley Fire Department, 650 W. Main Street.

This one hour program is designed to inform business owners, as well as employees, about ways to deter and protect against different types of crime. Topics to be discussed include: robbery, breaking and entering, employee theft, shoplifting, counterfeit money fraud, and check/credit card fraud.

This program is free to anyone who would like to attend, but is especially pertinent for local business owners.

For more information, please contact the police department at 614-873-4321.

Ann Murray and Mary Johnson Are Officially Retired.

On May 4, we surprised Ann Murray and Mary Johnson with a retirement party at Ann and Tony’s Restaurant in West Jefferson. Ann officially retired on May 2, but Mary slipped out last year when her husband, Johnny, had back surgery. We had hoped Mary would return some day if Johnny got better, but, alas, that is not to be. Mary is also now officially retired from the pharmacy.

Along with thirty-five friends, relatives, and the staff at the drugstore, Joe and I told Ann and Mary good-bye. We already missed Mary and we are certainly going to miss Ann. We want to thank them again for all they have done for us and Plain City Druggist over the past ten years.

To see more photos from the party, go to our Facebook page HERE.

Happy Retirement to Ann Murray!

Ann Murray has worked at the pharmacy almost since we opened. She started in 2000 and eleven years later, she has finally decided that it is time to retire. As she said, “I’m eighty-two years old. I think I’ve earned the right to retire.”

We know you have, Ann, but we are going to miss you!

Ann’s last day will be May 2 (or if she doesn’t get the “beginning of the month” large order put away on Monday, she plans to come back and finish on Tuesday, May 3). Ann told us her plans a few weeks ago, but we still haven’t quite gotten used to the idea of her being gone.

This is a good time for Ann to take her leave from the world of work, though. Fishing season at Lake Erie will just be getting underway as the weather finally warms up. In previous years, Ann and Richard always had to hurry back from the Lake so she could be at work on Monday. With Ann’s retirement, they will be able to stay as long as they want with no worries about having to be anywhere at any particular time.

Thank you, Ann, for all your hard work through the years. Thank you, also, for getting Richard involved in many of our schemes. You are a good friend and we love you. You will be missed by me, Joe, and all the staff and customers at Plain City Druggist.

If you would like to send Ann a note or a card to thank her or to congratulate her on her retirement, you can mail it to 439 South Chillicothe Street in Plain City.

Happy Retirement, Ann!! You will be missed (so come visit us)!

Congratulations to the Easter Coloring Contest Winners!

Drumroll, please….

The winners in the 2011 Easter Coloring Contest sponsored by Advanced Eyecare and Sports Vision Center and the drugstore were:

Coleman Beachy for the 3-4 year old age group.

Riley LaFayette for the 5-7 year age group.

Marcia Engel for the 8-10 year age group.

Dr. Richard Miller and Joe kindly posed with the winners who are from left to right, Riley, Coleman, and Marcia. Joe also decided to give everyone who entered the contest a candy bar, since we had so many super entries. If you didn’t get your candy bar yet, stop in and tell us! Thank you to all the budding artists in Plain City for taking the time to color these pictures.
