Bear With Us Over the Next Few Days and Weeks–Our New Computer System Will Make Things Bumpy For a Bit!

We are just learning this new system, so please be gentle with us.

On March 20, we will be going live with a new computer system that we hope will eventually make our lives and the lives of our customers much, much easier. But until we have learned the ins and outs, things might be a little bumpy in the pharmacy. Please just bear with us and be patient. We promise we’ll try to be geniuses and figure this stuff out as quickly as we can.

Along with the new computer system, we are also getting a new web site and a new IVR system. We will no longer have the pcdruggist.com web site through Corner Drugstore. Rather, our new web site will be www.druggist4u.com. You’ll be able to fill your prescriptions online, get coupons, and find out about the drugstore and our staff by visiting our new and improved site. But don’t forget, the Blog is still available, too–that has not changed. There’s even a link to the Blog at the top of the new web site! Pretty cool.

Many of you have already used the IVR system in the past to automatically refill your prescriptions. This is an upgrade from our previous system and is designed to improve efficiency within the pharmacy and enhance the level of care offered to you. You will be able to continue to order your refills without having to spend time waiting on the phone. In addition, the system informs you when your prescription will be ready for pickup or delivery, so you can time your errands accordingly. And, you can place your refill order any time of the day or night.

When you call the pharmacy, you will hear:

“Hello. Thank you for calling Plain City Druggist. Please choose from the following choices or simply hold for assistance.

If you are calling to refill a prescription and know your prescription number, press 1.

If you are calling from a doctor’s office, press 2.

To speak with a pharmacy staff member, press 3, or continue holding.

To hear our hours of operation and location, press 4.

To repeat these instructions, press 9.”

When you press Option 1, you simply enter in your prescription number by pushing the appropriate numbers on your telephone keypad. You also enter the local phone number where you can be reached if the pharmacist has a question. The system repeats back to you the digits you entered to make sure there wasn’t an error. That’s basically it. If you choose not to use the automated system, you simply stay on the line and your call will automatically be transferred to the pharmacy.

We know it takes time to get used to new things (believe us, we are all feeling the crunch!), so please give the new IVR system a try and let us know what you think. Once you are familiar with the options, and you know what you need to do when you place your call, you can press a digit key on your telephone as soon as the IVR system answers. This will make your call go even faster.

We will be awaiting your responses and suggestions. Please be patient in the next few days as we learn to be even better for YOU!

Have a Girls’ Night Out with Memorial Hospital’s Program: Women At the Heart of It All.

On April 20 at 7 pm, Memorial Hospital will be hosting a program called, “Women at the Heart of It All.” The event will be held at Bunsold Middle School, 14198 State Route 4, in Marysville.

This event is perfect for a special girls’ night out with friends, family, sisters, and moms and daughters. Tickets are $18 each or $15 for those 65 and older. Doors open at 5:30 pm with heavy hors d’oeuvres being served from 5:30 until the program starts at 7.

The program will feature a panel of doctors you can speak with about health issues and comedienne Kay Frances. Additionally, there will be a weigh station for your purse (lighten up to save your back) and a photo booth where you can capture memories with your favorite gals. There will also be door prizes, gift bags, and product samples.

Tickets went on sale March 1 and I’ve been told that over 300 have already sold. There are approximately 500 tickets available for this fun event, so don’t wait. Buy yours now and get a couple for your best girlfriends, too. Tickets can be purchased through Memorial Hospital’s Development Office by calling (937) 578-2316.

Happy Birthday on March 14 to Dr. Steve Tornik!

We want to wish Dr. Steve Tornik of Tornik Family Medicine a very happy birthday on Wednesday, March 14. Dr. Tornik is second from the left in the photo of the “firing squad.” Joe is fourth from the left (as if you could not spot him!). This photo was actually taken at the Memorial Hospital charity shooting event–so no need to worry about gangs of armed doctors and pharmacists patrolling Plain City!

We are very happy to have Dr. Tornik in town and we know his patients feel the same way.

March 14, as some of you may know, is also Pi Day (Pi equals 3.14159…, but mathematicians round to 3.14 for this day). March 14 is also the birthday of Albert Einstein. Dr. Tornik is in fine company with geniuses and mathematicians on this day! We wish him an infinite amount of happiness!

Come for a Free Educational Session On Hormone Replacement Therapy, Thursday, March 15 from 7-8 pm at the Firehouse.

Join Joe and our two fourth year pharmacy students, Gifty Kusi and Ayman Saleh, on Thursday, March 15 for a free educational talk on hormone replacement therapy. The session will take place at the Pleasant Valley Fire Department (650 West Main Street) from 7-8 pm.

The talk is being given to help patients learn about the symptoms of depleted hormones and how we can help with those problems through our compounding abilities with Midwestern Compounding Pharmacy (located in Suite 200 at Plain City Druggist).

Patients will learn the part unbalanced hormones play in hot flashes, night sweats, stress, moodiness, weight gain, sleep disturbances, decreased libido, fatigue, bone problems, and PMS. They will also discover the difference between bio-identical and synthetic hormones, as well as the risk and benefits of hormone replacement therapy.

This talk is being given to kick off a new program that Midwestern Compounding Pharmacy is offering.  To determine if a patient has decreased hormone levels, one-on-one consultations with a pharmacist will be scheduled to review medical history, symptoms, and then, if needed, collaborate with your doctor to begin using hormone replacement therapy. Sessions last forty minutes and fifteen minute follow-up sessions can also be scheduled. Hormone level testing will be done during the session to determine if there is a hormonal imbalance. The testing requires no blood samples and is completely private.

Forty minute sessions will cost $80, while follow-up, fifteen minute sessions will be $30.

Please attend this free talk and find out if you could benefit from hormone replacement therapy.

Congratulations to Michaela Henderson, Miss Defense!

We just wanted to send our congratulations to Michaela Henderson who was named “Defensive Player of the Year” for the Fairbanks High School Varsity Ladies Basketball team. Michaela, who is only a Freshman, not only lettered, but also received this honor for her rebounding and ball thieving abilities during the 2011-2012 season.

You wouldn’t know it to look at her (she looks so sweet), but Michaela can nab a basketball and be halfway down the court before you even realize she pounced!

We had a lot of fun attending some of Michaela’s games this year and watching her mom, Margie, glow with pride! We can’t wait to cheer Michaela on at more games in the future and watch her grow as a player.

We know we are going to see lots of great things from Michaela, both on and off the court, in the next few years. Way to go, Mic!
