Ol’ 42 Grub House Offers Good Food and Plain City Murals!

Joe and I finally made it a point to stop in and try out the Ol’ 42 Grub House. We’ve been talking about going for several weeks, as we’ve been hearing lots of good things about it. Happily, all of the rumors are true–there was tasty food, a very nice atmosphere, and a lot of customers going in and out. We are glad to have something in this space in the downtown again, as we were sorry to see the coffee shop leave.

Remnants of the coffee shop remain with the paint colors and the set up. But many things have also changed. First and foremost was the menu. Simple and straight forward, the menu offered salads, sandwiches, pasta, and pizza. Something for everyone. Joe had a sausage sandwich (one of his most favorite things in the whole world after pizza) and I had the baked penne pasta. Both meals were excellent with a starter salad and drinks. Since that first meal, we have been back to savor stuffed shells, bread sticks, and pizza. Everything has been super!

Another change inside was the artwork. One of the things that Joe and I really liked were the murals of Plain City landmarks and people adorning the walls of the Ol’ 42 Grub House. The murals, created by local artist Hilary Frambes, feature the clock tower, a view of Main Street, a tractor and cornfield, and Jonathan Alder football players. You can see each of the murals displayed on Hilary’s web site HERE.

Besides murals and commissioned artwork, Hilary also volunteers with an after school art program for fourth graders in the Plain City Elementary.

We truly hope that if you have not been to the Ol’ 42 Grub House, you will give it a try for lunch or dinner. We don’t have a lot of restaurants in Plain City, so please support this one to give us another choice when dinner at home just isn’t on the menu.

I’ve been wanting to try that place out for quite awhile… but I just haven’t had the money to do so. How good is their pizza? And honestly.. whose pizza you think is better? you can email me the answer if you don’t want to post it here.. but whose is better? Theirs or Jan & Tonys? Thats where I usually get my pizza from.
