Meet Our Student Pharmacist for July, Andrew Chow.

We are very lucky to have two student pharmacists helping out in the drugstore for the month of July. Both students are coming to us from The Ohio State University. Today, you’ll find out a bit more about Andrew Chow. In a later posting, you’ll meet Shawn Rutledge. Both of these students will be helping out behind the counter, counseling you, our patients, when you stop by, and mixing up compounds in the lab with Bob. Please give them a warm Plain City welcome when you drop in.

Here is what Andrew has to tell us about himself:

G’day! My name is Andrew Chow. I am a fourth year pharmacy student from The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy. Originally from San Antonio, Texas, I have lived in Columbus for over three years. Whenever I have free time, I like to cook and spend time with my son.

I was born and raised in China and attended high school in Sydney, Australia. My family then moved to the United States because of my father’s work. At that time, I followed in my father’s footsteps to study engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. After graduation, I worked in the high-tech industry for a number of years in the areas of manufacturing as well as patent protection.

My introduction to health care was through my wife who works in the health care sector. Helping people achieve their health care needs was the main reason that I decided to obtain my master’s degree in health care administration. During my administrative residency at a hospital, I had the opportunity to learn about pharmacy operations from the hospital pharmacists. At that time, I realized that I could utilize my background to serve patients better as a pharmacist moreso than as a hospital administrator. As a result, I decided to seek a Doctor of Pharmacy degree at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy.

I believe that the key mission of a pharmacist is to do what is best for his or her patient. For me, the interaction between a pharmacist and patients is invaluable to helping them to get the care they need. I am interested in a career in the community setting. I hope my experience at Plain City Druggist will help me to gain business as well as operations knowledge. I also hope to learn more about compounding as I believe it could be an area of growth for the future of pharmacy.

I look forward to meeting and working with everyone this month at Plain City Druggist!
