Meet Our Student Pharmacist for July, Andrew Chow.

We are very lucky to have two student pharmacists helping out in the drugstore for the month of July. Both students are coming to us from The Ohio State University. Today, you’ll find out a bit more about Andrew Chow. In a later posting, you’ll meet Shawn Rutledge. Both of these students will be helping out behind the counter, counseling you, our patients, when you stop by, and mixing up compounds in the lab with Bob. Please give them a warm Plain City welcome when you drop in.

Here is what Andrew has to tell us about himself:

G’day! My name is Andrew Chow. I am a fourth year pharmacy student from The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy. Originally from San Antonio, Texas, I have lived in Columbus for over three years. Whenever I have free time, I like to cook and spend time with my son.

I was born and raised in China and attended high school in Sydney, Australia. My family then moved to the United States because of my father’s work. At that time, I followed in my father’s footsteps to study engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. After graduation, I worked in the high-tech industry for a number of years in the areas of manufacturing as well as patent protection.

My introduction to health care was through my wife who works in the health care sector. Helping people achieve their health care needs was the main reason that I decided to obtain my master’s degree in health care administration. During my administrative residency at a hospital, I had the opportunity to learn about pharmacy operations from the hospital pharmacists. At that time, I realized that I could utilize my background to serve patients better as a pharmacist moreso than as a hospital administrator. As a result, I decided to seek a Doctor of Pharmacy degree at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy.

I believe that the key mission of a pharmacist is to do what is best for his or her patient. For me, the interaction between a pharmacist and patients is invaluable to helping them to get the care they need. I am interested in a career in the community setting. I hope my experience at Plain City Druggist will help me to gain business as well as operations knowledge. I also hope to learn more about compounding as I believe it could be an area of growth for the future of pharmacy.

I look forward to meeting and working with everyone this month at Plain City Druggist!

Have a Safe and Happy Independence Day!

We want to wish everyone a safe and happy Fourth of July. Please remember that the pharmacy will be closed on Friday to celebrate the holiday.

If you have an emergency and need to reach Joe, please call his pager at 614-240-8421.

We will reopen on Saturday, July 5, at 9 am, and will be open regular hours (until noon).

Please have a safe and enjoyable holiday!

Plain City Fourth of July Activities!

The Fourth of July activities get started at 11 am this Friday with the parade that begins at the North Entrance of Pastime Park. The parade will wind through the downtown and then right onto Park Street. The Grand Marshals for the parade will be the Veterans of Plain City.

At 5 pm, the gates open to Pastime Park for “Picnic in the Park.” The entrance fee to the park activities is FREE (as always!), but a goodwill donation will be asked.

From 7-9:45 pm, Agent 99 will perform on the Pavilion Stage. Agent 99 is a cover band that plays 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s music.

From 7-9:45 pm, Jorden Stock will DJ in the Gazebo.

From 7-9 pm, Bingo will be ongoing in the Youth Building. There is no cost–this is just for fun.

At 9 pm, there will be a gun raffle drawing for a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 9 MM and the 50/50 winner will be announced on the Pavilion Stage.

You can also bring food and beverages, but no ALCOHOLIC beverages are allowed in the park. You are also welcome to bring corn hole sets, volleyball, badminton, etc.

The following food vendors will be set up throughout the evening: food truck of fried bologna and walleye (same as sets up for Steam Threshers and the Fall Festival), Dan’s Deli Truck providing hamburgers, grilled chicken, gyros, brats, and more, El Tuzo Taco providing tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and other Mexican specialties, Miller’s Homemade Ice Cream, and Dodd’s Food Truck with funnel cakes, french fries, pizza, and lemonade.

Additionally, the Plain City Events Committee will have pulled pork sliders prepared by Rob Schaner in the Lions Building from 5-8 pm.

There will also be two bounce houses, a professional balloon twister, face painters, stilt walkers, and lots of freebies for the kids. A professional photographer will also be taking photos with the product delivered on site.

Plain City Farmers Market Starts July 4!

The Plain City Farmers Market will have a special start date on Friday, July 4. For one Friday only, to coincide with the Fourth of July Parade in uptown Plain City, the Farmers Market will run from 11 am to 1 pm on Independence Day.

Sponsored by The Uptown Plain City Organization (UPCO), the Farmers Market will take place every Thursday (beginning on July 10) after July 4th from 4:30-7 pm through October 2.

The Farmers Market is held at the corner of South Chillicothe and State Route 161 in Uptown Plain City (next to the Clock Tower building).

There will be music and lots of local vendors each week with “learn-and-taste” features.

You can also win a bag of vendor items by entering a drawing at the Farmers Market. You do not need to be present to win, but you’d better pick up your goodie bag quickly if you do win–there are lots of fresh items in it!

Please shop locally and support our Plain City and Union/Madison County farmers by stopping by the Farmers Market.
