Meet Our Student Pharmacist for June, Brittany Roy.

IMG_2664

We are fortunate to have two student pharmacists, Brittany Roy and Mark Buenger, from The Ohio State University’s College of Pharmacy with us for the month of June. Both Brittany and Mark are fourth year students who will graduate in May 2016. Please make them both feel welcome while they are learning about independent pharmacy and compounding this month.

Here is what Brittany has to say about herself.

Hello, everyone! My name is Brittany Roy and I am a fourth-year student pharmacist from The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy. Since I have the pleasure of spending the month of June at Plain City Druggist, I wanted to take the time to tell you a little bit about myself.

I was raised in West Liberty, Kentucky–a small town of only three stoplights and about 3,500 people. There wasn’t a lot to do in my hometown, but my friends and I always found entertainment outdoors doing things like swimming, fishing, hiking, and fourwheeling.

I graduated from high school in a class of about 120 people and was accepted into the University of Kentucky (Go CATS!) where I graduated with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in biology. Towards the end of my undergraduate education, I started to apply to a number of pharmacy schools and ended up going with The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy.

I would have to say that my father is the biggest reason why I chose pharmacy as a career path–although, my love for the sciences and how the body works was a close second. My father grew up on a farm and was the only one out of six siblings to pursue a college education and become a pharmacist. He worked extremely hard to get where he is today and has always provided more than enough for his family–for that, I have the upmost respect for him. He now currently owns his own little independent pharmacy back in my hometown that actually reminds me a lot of Plain City Druggist. I’ve just always enjoyed the atmosphere of a small-town independent pharmacy and think there is something really special having that one-on-one relationship with customers. When I graduate, I plan on working in a community pharmacy, with the hopes of someday either taking over my father’s business or starting my own elsewhere.

I look forward to spending the month in Plain City and learning all that I can from this experience. Please feel free to approach me with any questions you may have, personal or pharmacy-related!
