Besides having two student pharmacists for the month of June at Plain City Druggist (you already met them in earlier posts), we also have two students at Happy Druggist on Karl Road. Both Jia-yin and Adam are fourth year students from The Ohio State University’s College of Pharmacy and will graduate in May 2017.

First up, we’d like you to meet Jia-yin Shum who goes by “J Y.” Here is what she has to say about herself:

Hello! My name is Jia-yin Shum and I am a fourth year pharmacy student at The Ohio State University.

I am originally from Oakland, CA. I graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Integrative Biology. During my undergraduate career, I had the opportunity to volunteer at an outpatient pharmacy in a county hospital. I enjoyed the one-on-one interactions with my patients on a daily basis and this experience made me realize that I wanted to pursue a career as a pharmacist.

Currently, I work as an intern at Nationwide Children’s Hospital outpatient pharmacy. I enjoy working with patients to improve their health by counseling them on how to take their medications or addressing any questions or concerns they may have about them.

Upon graduation from pharmacy school, I plan on working in a community pharmacy.

During my free time, I enjoy hiking, baking cookies and brownies, and travelling. I also love to eat and try different food.
