The 67th Annual Meeting of the Miami Valley Steam Threshers will take place from Thursday, July 14 to Sunday, July 17 in Pastime Park in Plain City. This year, the 2016 show will feature Minneapolis-Moline.

As always, the Grand Parade through downtown Plain City will take place on Friday, July 15 at 6 pm. There will also be lawnmower races on Thursday night and tractor pulls on Saturday and Sunday.

The Ohio Village Muffins will play against the Plain City Baseball Association coaches on Friday at 8 pm.

General admission is $5 at the gate. Thursday is $2 admission for senior citizens. Children 12 and under are admitted FREE with an adult. Annual membership is $15 and includes two show passes.

For information, visit the Miami Valley Steam Show web site HERE.

For a copy of the show flyer, go HERE or click on the flyer at the bottom to enlarge and print.

Additionally, please visit the Plain City Lions Club booth at the Steam Show for their sausage sandwiches and bratwursts. The Lions stand is a huge charitable money maker for the Plain City Club and allows them to carry out their good deeds throughout the year. All of the money raised at the Steam Show goes back into the local community.

Joe will be working a few shifts at the Lions Booth, so stop by and say hi. While you are there, ask him to make you a Lemon Shake Up. Joe also encouraged our pharmacist manager, Jennifer, to help at the Lions Club stand for a couple of shifts. So make sure to tell her hello if you see Jennifer! That is dedication.

The Lions Club Stand is open from 6 am to 10 pm and they also serve breakfast. You can get pancakes, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and eggs (any way you like them).

Meet Our Second Student Pharmacist for July, Calvin Chan.

A few days ago, we introduced you to Ping Zhu, one of our two student pharmacists for the month of July. Today, we’d like to have you meet Calvin Chan. Calvin is also a fourth year pharmacy student from The Ohio State University’s College of Pharmacy. Please make Calvin feel very welcome while he is with us this entire month.

Here is what Calvin has to say about himself:

Hello everyone!

My name is Calvin Chan. I grew up in the Northern Kentucky area right on the border of Ohio. My hometown is the reason I became a hybrid fan of the two great universities that I have had the pleasure of attending: the Kentucky Wildcats for my undergraduate education, and THE Ohio State Buckeyes where I am currently in my fourth and final year of my Doctorate of Pharmacy education.

I currently work as a pharmacy intern at The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center inpatient pharmacy, where I not only get to be a part of a top-notch hospital system, but also learn from some of the best minds in pharmacy.

I have always loved interacting and meeting new people from every walk of life. I hoped that with every interaction I would not only grow personally, but also make a positive impact on someone’s life. This is what led me down the path to become a pharmacist. It is a career where I would be able to make a positive mark on a community while learning something new for myself every single day!

In my free time, I enjoy watching Netflix, cooking new dishes, and having some quality time with a quality book. I am also a sports fanatic who enjoys listening to sports talk radio and following all things Buckeyes-related, so if you ever want to have a chat with someone about the Scarlet and Gray, I am all ears.

Meet Our Student Pharmacist for July, Ping Zhu.

IMG_5386

We are so lucky to have two student pharmacists from The Ohio State University’s College of Pharmacy with us for the entire month of July. Both Ping and Calvin are fourth year students who will graduate in May 2017 and then go on to practice as pharmacists. In this posting, we’d like to introduce you to Ping Zhu.

Here is what Ping has to say about herself:

Hi, my name is Ping Zhu and I am a fourth year pharmacy student at The Ohio State University. I am excited to join Plain City Druggist for the month of July. I am interested in learning more about the operation of independent pharmacy, as well as gaining more knowledge about medications.

I graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences (BSPS).

I want to be a pharmacist, because I enjoy the patient interactions and answering patients’ questions and concerns.

During my undergraduate college experience and while in pharmacy school, I have worked at CVS pharmacy.

After graduation, I want to stay in community pharmacy. I want to help patients achieve maximum benefits from their medication therapies so they can avoid going to the hospital for diseases that can be prevented. I also want to counsel patients on the use of over-the-counter (OTC) medications to prevent drug-drug interactions and the misuse of medications due to any confusion about the medications.

Outside of pharmacy, I enjoy trying different food and traveling.

I am excited about this opportunity. I believe I will learn a lot from this rotation. Please feel free to stop by and say hi or ask questions. I’d love to help!
