Meet Nicholas Schroeder, Our Student Pharmacist for February at Happy Druggist on Karl Road.

20170209_144813(0)

Besides Laura and Doug, who are student pharmacists helping at Plain City Druggist this month, we also have a student pharmacist for the month of February at Happy Druggist on Karl Road. Nicholas Schroeder is from The Ohio State University’s College of Pharmacy and will be graduating in May. Please make sure you stop in and meet Nicholas this month.

Here is a bit more about Nicholas in his own words:

My name is Nicholas Schroeder and I am a 2017 PharmD candidate at The Ohio State University. I am excited to be part of the team for this month. I started my pharmacy career in a similar independent pharmacy. Ring’s pharmacy is the local independent in my hometown of Montpelier, Ohio. I started in high school, because of my interest in the fields of science and math. This led me to pursue a career in the medical field. I decided upon pharmacy, because I enjoyed getting to see the customers on a regular basis and forming great relationships with many of them.

I began my formal pharmacy education at OSU in 2009 and started working with CVS when I came to campus for school. Over the last seven years I have worked full time with CVS and have thoroughly enjoyed my time there. I have grown as an individual from the experience and look forward to gaining insight from an independent community pharmacy in the urban setting.

My plan is to become a community pharmacist in North Carolina after graduation. I am very excited to be part of the healthcare team and part of one of the most trusted professions. I hope to lead patients to a better understanding of their medication regimen while also helping them by being their liaison to their physician.

Please Welcome Our Second Student Pharmacist For February, Doug Gugel-Bryant, From NEOMED.

Our second pharmacy student for the month of February, Doug Gugel-Bryant is from Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED). We previously introduced you to Laura who is from Ohio State.

Please make Doug feel very welcome when you stop in to visit us. Both Doug and Laura will be graduating this year and will then go on to take the testing for their pharmacy licenses which allows them to practice as pharmacists.

Here is a bit about Doug’s background:

Hello, my name is Doug Gugel-Bryant and I am a fourth year pharmacy student from the Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED). This is my second to last rotation before graduating from NEOMED and becoming a pharmacist.

I grew up in Southeast Ohio and have lived there nearly my whole life. My parents currently live in Lancaster, Ohio on the way towards Athens.

I graduated from Capital University in Bexley, Ohio with a double major in Chemistry Pre-Pharmacy and Biochemistry. While there, I was a four year varsity letterman on the tennis team. I also was a part of Phi Mu Alpha, a national music fraternity.

I found my way to NEOMED for pharmacy school and I am also pursuing a Certificate in Bioethics along with my pharmacy degree. I have been active on campus as a tutor and guest lecturer for the first year pharmacy students. I am a member of various organizations, such as Musicians in Medicine, Fit Club, and Clinical Detectives Club (where we all pretend like we are Dr. House and solve a medical case).

In my free time, I am physically active and am currently training for a half marathon this coming April. I also have been playing the acoustic guitar for over 10 years and play fingerstyle guitar (I call it “new-age classical guitar”).

Both of my parents are ministers and I learned first hand from them how important it is to help those who are suffering. It’s because of my experiences growing up that I have decided to pursue Palliative Care and Hospice after I graduate. I plan on obtaining a residency and increase my clinical knowledge to help me get to do what I hope will be my future. In my eyes, no one should have to suffer and if it can’t be avoided I want to be there alongside on the journey with you.

I look forward to this month and getting to see everyone that I can. Please stop by and say hi! I would love to just talk and get to hear your story.

Please Welcome Our Student Pharmacist for the Month of February, Laura Lasonczyk, From The Ohio State University.

We have two new pharmacy students with us for the month of February. First, we’d like to introduce you to Laura Lasonczyk (pronounced Lass-un-check). Laura is from The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy. Laura will graduate in May and will then take the test to become a licensed pharmacist.

Here is what Laura has to say about herself:

My name is Laura Lasonczyk (pronounced Lass-un-check) and I am a fourth year pharmacy student at Ohio State. I am excited to be on rotation at Plain City Druggist for the month of February.

I am originally from Mason, OH (where King’s Island is), but have lived in the Columbus area ever since my undergrad time at OSU. I have my Bachelor’s in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Ohio State and will be graduating in May with my PharmD.

I have worked for a grocery chain pharmacy for over six years and love interacting with patients in the retail setting. I have not worked in an independent pharmacy setting before, but look forward to the opportunity.

I chose pharmacy as a profession for many reasons. I have always had a fondness for science and knew that I wanted to be in a science-involved field. I also have always loved serving others and building lasting relationships with people (I was actually in a service fraternity in undergrad). I feel that pharmacy, especially retail pharmacy, is a perfect combination of all of these things. Thus, I hope to stay in the retail pharmacy field after graduation, whether it is with a chain or an independent, such as Plain City Druggist.

When I am not busy with school or work, I enjoy working out and training for marathons. I have run three marathons so far and hope to run the Columbus marathon again this October. I also enjoy spending time with family and friends, including participating in a monthly euchre card club.

Feel free to say hi to me in the pharmacy! I would love to get to know some of you this month!
