Free Backpack Program Continues for 6th Year for Jonathan Alder and Fairbanks 1st and 2nd Graders!

For the sixth year, we will be providing backpacks filled with selected school supplies to Jonathan Alder first and second graders at Plain City Elementary and Monroe Elementary.

This year, we are making backpacks available for Fairbanks first and second graders, as well.

Using the school supply lists located on the Jonathan Alder School web sites, we chose items that we thought would be most needed by the students.

To see the Fairbanks Elementary School supply lists, go HERE.

The backpacks are FREE.

The backpacks are our way of thanking the community for continually supporting us. All that is required to obtain a backpack is to have a parent or guardian stop in the pharmacy and sign for the child.

There is a limit of one backpack per child. Supplies are limited, so don’t wait!

Please drop by the pharmacy beginning on Thursday, August 14, to pick up a backpack filled with supplies for your proud student. The pharmacy is open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 6 pm and Saturday from 9 am to noon. We are closed on Sundays.

Hopefully, when you and your children open the backpacks, the smell of crayons will instantly put you and them in the “back-to-school” mood. It did us!

Please thank our Ohio State University College of Pharmacy student, Colin, for assembling a ton of backpacks! Colin is getting ready to head back to school, too, but, unfortunately, he won’t need any crayons in pharmacy school!

Thank you, as well, to our fourth year pharmacy students, Josh and Eli, for modeling the backpacks. If pharmacy doesn’t work out for them, we know they will have jobs in the fashion industry!

Remember, school starts on Wednesday, August 20, for those in the Jonathan Alder School District, as well as the Fairbanks Local School District! Can the summer really be over? Sigh.

Help Boy Scout, Stewart Morris, with a School Supply Drive on August 3!

Stewart Morris, who many of you know is the grandson of Ernestine Young and the nephew of our good friend, Allen Young, is pursuing the highest ranking in the Boy Scouts through a very special project. Stewart is hoping to make the Eagle Scout ranking by carrying out a School Supply Drive on Saturday, August 3 from 9 am to 1 pm. Items can be dropped off during that time period at the Milford Center Community Center in Milford Center, Ohio, located on East State Street.

For his Eagle Scout project, Stewart has chosen to give back to his school and community by providing students in need at Fairbanks Elementary School (grades Kindergarten through 5th Grade) with backpacks filled with school supplies for the upcoming school year.

School supplies needed include:

  1. Backpacks

  2. 24 pack Crayola crayons

  3. Glue Sticks

  4. Wide Ruled paper

  5. Erasers

  6. Highlighters

  7. Black Dry Erase Markers

  8. #2 Pencils

  9. Pencil Sharpeners

10. Scissors

11. Pens

12. Post-it Notes

13. Composition Books

14. Tissues

15. Disinfecting wipes

16. Gallon and Quart Sized Baggies

Monetary Donations will also be accepted and used to purchase additional supplies and backpacks.

If you would like to donate, but are unable to drop off the items on August 3, please call Stewart at 614-557-9522 and he will happily make arrangements to pick up any donations and supplies you would like to give him for the Fairbanks students.

Thank you in advance for helping Stewart reach his Eagle Scout ranking through your kind donations to help Fairbanks school children!

Congratulations to Michaela Henderson, Miss Defense!

We just wanted to send our congratulations to Michaela Henderson who was named “Defensive Player of the Year” for the Fairbanks High School Varsity Ladies Basketball team. Michaela, who is only a Freshman, not only lettered, but also received this honor for her rebounding and ball thieving abilities during the 2011-2012 season.

You wouldn’t know it to look at her (she looks so sweet), but Michaela can nab a basketball and be halfway down the court before you even realize she pounced!

We had a lot of fun attending some of Michaela’s games this year and watching her mom, Margie, glow with pride! We can’t wait to cheer Michaela on at more games in the future and watch her grow as a player.

We know we are going to see lots of great things from Michaela, both on and off the court, in the next few years. Way to go, Mic!

Have A Fantastic School Year!

I know on the first day back to school, the thought in my mind was always, “Where did the summer go?” That was closely followed by, “Did they really give homework on the first day?”

While summer is not quite over yet, it is time to start new adventures in the classroom. Joe and I want to wish everyone in the Jonathan Alder School District a very happy first day of classes today.

The Fairbanks crew gets an extra day to sleep in, however, so we will send them the same wishes a day early and hope their first day will turn out well on Wednesday. Margie’s daughter, Michaela, will be starting as a Freshman at Fairbanks this year after attending St. John’s for nine years. The former Jaguar will be transforming into a Fairbanks Panther in the coming weeks. We know Michaela is going to be a star student and a super star on the Panther basketball court.

Joe and I hope this will be a safe, happy, and productive school year filled with new friends, unforgettable experiences, and an explosion of brain power!
