Happy First Day of School on August 16 and August 17!

first-day-of-school

We want to wish all the area Jonathan Alder students, staff, and teachers a happy first day of school on August 16!

Fairbanks will get started just one day later on August 17. Enjoy one last day of sleeping in while the Jonathan Alder students are already in classes.

We remember what that first day was like–the smell of new shoes, a clean school building, and fresh sheets of paper. Excitement over seeing friends you had not seen in several weeks and worries about the challenges of trigonometry, Shakespearean tragedies, and hundreds of other facts that needed shoved in a brain a bit sluggish from summer vacation.

Enjoy each day as if it were the first!

Have a super first day and a wonderful 2017-2018 school year.

Back to School Time. By Our August Student Pharmacist, Katy Hoffman.

August is here–the month kids have been dreading since the start of summer. The month that means it is time to return to school.

Getting back into school mode can be quite the chore. Here are some tips to help make the journey slightly more manageable.

  1. Try to get back on a proper sleeping schedule a few days before the start of school.
  • No more video games or television until the early morning or even past 8 PM– staring at bright screens can make it harder to fall asleep come bedtime.
  • No more caffeine past 6 PM— drinking caffeinated beverages (pop, tea, and/or coffee) later in the evening will make it more difficult to fall asleep at night.
  • Come up with a bedtime routine—this will help the body realize when it is time to go to bed and it will allow the body to relax for sleep.
  1. Eat healthier to help increase energy levels.
  • Limit your junk food intake— having a balanced diet is important to maintaining adequate and sustainable energy levels.
  • Drink plenty of water—staying well hydrated is also important to having adequate energy levels.
  1. Help ease the transition with positive thoughts and a great attitude.
  • Get excited for a new school year— it is a chance to reconnect with friends from class.
  • Back to school shopping does not have to be a drag—try to get more than just basic school supplies. Get something special like a new outfit.

Getting back into school mode is difficult, but hopefully these tips will help ease the transition. Remember to sleep and eat right and keep a positive attitude. Next summer will be here before you know it.

We want to send our congratulations and best wishes to all of the 2015 graduates, including the college graduates we know, and those graduating from the local high schools.

Some of those recent graduates include our pharmacy students who have done month long rotations with us from The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy and our wonderful interns:

  • Ashley Sullivan, our super intern at both Plain City Druggist and Happy Druggist.
  • Andy Luo, who spent nearly three years with us and has returned home to California to begin his career as a pharmacist.
  • Eric Oh
  • Joshua Kretzer
  • Eli Puckett
  • Andrew Chow
  • Shawn Rutledge
  • Katy Schafer
  • Megan Chaney

Our customer service clerk and pharmacy intern, Jessica Palmer, who will be starting her first year at Ohio State in pharmacy school in the fall, also graduated this May from The University of Dayton with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry.

Additionally, Margie’s daughter, Michaela Henderson, graduated as valedictorian from Fairbanks over the weekend. Michaela will be heading off to Washington University in St. Louis in the fall to major in biochemistry before pursing a medical degree.

We also wish good luck to Dr. Richard and Dava Miller’s son, Jacob, who graduated along with Michaela from Fairbanks; Dr. Richard and Jennifer Shugert’s daughter, Hannah; and Dr. Dan and Resa Lynn’s son, Aaron.

Way to go! The journey only grows more exciting as you venture through life!
