Dinner and Auction to Benefit Troubled Boys on Friday, November 11 at 6 pm.

The fourth annual Boys Camp BBQ Chicken Dinner and Auction Fundraiser benefitting three wilderness boys’ camps will be held Friday, November 11, 2016 at 6:00 pm at Plainview Christian School, 8270 Amish Pike in Plain City. Proceeds will benefit the Ohio Wilderness Boys Camp, the Fair Play Camp School in South Carolina, and the Gator Wilderness Camp School in Florida.

The donated funds will help boys like Jacob.

Jacob was born to a drug-addict mother. When his adoptive parents took him home from the hospital, they did not anticipate the difficulties that they would be facing. Jacob was a good boy, but he would experience outbursts of anger and violent behavior that they were not prepared to handle. Feeling helpless and alone, they didn’t know where to turn next. A friend recommended a boys’ wilderness camp where Jacob and his family were given tools to deal with his issues. Today Jacob is a changed young man.

Therapeutic wilderness camp is for boys aged 7-17 who are experiencing behavioral or emotional problems and who agree to placement because of a desire to change. They live in outdoor campsites in groups of ten boys and two counselors who are called “chiefs”. The average stay at a camp is eighteen months. The combination of mentoring and positive peer pressure leaves a lifelong impact on a boy.

The Chicken Dinner line opens at 6:00 pm and will be on a donation basis. The auction will begin at approximately 7:15 pm. Many new and used items are being donated by local businesses and individuals. Past auctions have included tools, furniture, lawn equipment, toys, household items, a storage shed, a weekend getaway, and more, and have lasted approximately two hours.

This fundraiser was inspired by local men and women who have served as chiefs, supervisors, and cooks at these camps in the past. Currently, Spencer Hostetler of Plain City serves as a chief and sisters, Stephanie and Angie Helmuth, also of Plain City, are cooks at one of the camps. There are also several Plain City area men who serve on the boards for these camps.

If you would like to help, good quality donations will be accepted until auction time. Items can be dropped off at Beachy Barns until 4:00 pm on auction day and at Plainview school after 4:00 pm.
