Please Welcome Ike Nnyamah Our Fourth Year Student Pharmacist from The Ohio State University.

Ike N

For the months of December and January, we are joined at Plain City Druggist by Ike Nnyamah, a fourth-year pharmacy student from The Ohio State University’s College of Pharmacy.

Ike will graduate in May 2023 with his PharmD degree and will then take the test to become a registered pharmacist. Ike will be with Tayler and the gang here in Plain City throughout December and January, so please stop by and meet him while he is here.

Here is what Ike tells us about himself:

My name is Ike Nnyamah and I am a fourth-year pharmacy student at The Ohio State University college of Pharmacy. I am delighted to be learning more about independent community pharmacy operations for the months of December and January at Plain City Druggist.

I am originally from New Jersey where I attended Rutgers University. While there I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in biotechnology, and plant science.

Initially I was not interested in entering the medical field; however during my undergraduate career I came to admire many aspects of medicine. I was excited to learn how antibiotics target bacteria, but not us. I was equally enthusiastic about creating aspirin from its natural product during class. During a lesson, my instructor made a joke that I might want to give pharmacy a try because I had done particularly well during that class. I surprised him by admitting that learning about medications had become my new passion, and that I would give it serious thought.

I proceeded to work as a pharmacy technician for a few years as a way to test the waters and determine if the profession was the correct path for me. The pharmacists I worked with were passionate about service and very knowledgeable. This left a lasting impression on me, and I decided this path was the best way to indulge my excitement regarding new medications, and as a way to help people.

I relocated to Columbus, OH in 2016 to start my education at The Ohio State University’s College of Pharmacy. However during my education, I sustained a serious injury that temporarily put my education on hold. I am proud I was able to overcome this challenge and complete my education, and I hope anyone hearing my story will be inspired to continue pursuing their passion through any adversity they may be facing.

A few of my passions in pharmacy include compounding, infectious diseases, and oncology. I think the most satisfying part of pharmacy is educating patients about the medications they have been prescribed, and empowering them to understand more about selecting the right medications for themselves.

I have not decided where I would prefer to practice after I have graduated, but I have been leaning towards a career in community pharmacy.
