Fall is Coming! Let’s Stay Active. By Our September Student Pharmacist, Kevin Lanning.

FallFest1

Don’t let autumn slow you down! Now that Labor Day has passed, fall is upon on us. Fall officially begins September 23.

There are many things you can do to stay active throughout autumn. Staying active can keep you healthy and feeling well. One way to be active includes enjoying all of the fall festivals in the area, while also incorporating physical activity into your routine.

It is easy to stay active in the summer and keep busy. As fall and winter approaches, however, we become less lively. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends 150 minutes of physical activity weekly. The 150 minutes could be 30 minutes 5 days a week, for example. Physical activity can range from various aerobic activities including brisk walking, riding a bike, jogging, and water aerobics. Even pushing a lawn mower or playing tennis is considered physical activity.

Incorporating physical activity in to your routine can improve your weight, cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar. It can reduce your risk of heart disease and diabetes while strengthening your bones and muscles. A little bit of physical activity can go a long way toward improving your overall health! If you are not used to physical activity, start slow and work your way up.

You may ask, where can I exercise or how can I track my activity? Many fitness centers offer fall specials for membership. Local fitness centers close to Plain City include Plain City Fitness and Curves where you can exercise. You can also track your walking and jogging with a pedometer. Many smartphones have apps that can track your physical activity as well.

Now let’s talk about some fun activities and festivals that will be happening throughout the fall:

The Orchard & Company will be having their fall festival throughout September and October on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 6 pm. They are located off US Highway 42 and Price Hilliard Road.
– The Plain City Fall Festival will also be happening on October 3 in Pastime Park.
Jacquemin Farms, located off Highland Croy Road, will have fall pumpkin picking in October.
– The City of Dublin will be hosting a Halloween Spooktacular on Thursday, October 15.
– Lastly, one of my favorite events of the fall is All Hallows’ Eve at the Ohio Village presented by the Ohio History Connection on October 17 and 24.

(To find out more go to: https://www.ohiohistory.org/participate/event-calendar/hallows). This event is for all ages and always a blast.

Autumn is a time to stay active and enjoy numerous festivals while promoting physical activity. Just because summer is gone, there is still plenty to do and enjoy!
