Please Sign This Petition to Recognize Pharmacists as Healthcare Providers!

Joe forwarded me this petition from his pharmacist friend, Ed Zatta, and asked me to blog about it so that everyone who reads the blog can sign the petition. This petition asks the Obama Administration to recognize pharmacists as healthcare providers. Currently, pharmacists are NOT recognized as such under the Social Security Act and cannot be paid by Medicare for therapy management and patient consultation services.

Among those who are considered to be healthcare professionals: dietitians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurse midwives, and clinical social workers.

But NOT pharmacists.

By signing this petition and asking Medicare to change the compensation structure to include pharmacists, you will ensure that you, the patient, will continue to have access to the medication expertise given by a pharmacist. Studies show that when pharmacists get involved in patient care, there are fewer drug reactions and healthcare costs are reduced. Patients win!

To sign this petition, you must create an account with a password, as this is an official White House site. It only takes a few seconds to put in your email and generate a password. After you create the account, you will have to hit a link in your email. It may not take you directly back to this petition, so if it does not, click on the link again after you have created the account. If you already have an account with the White House, log in.

We need 25,000 signatures on this petition by January 26, so please pass this along to friends and relatives!
