Plain City Heritage Day will Present History and Fun on Saturday, May 18.

On Saturday, May 18, UPCO (Uptown Plain City Organization) and the Plain City Heritage Group (PCHG) are partnering to present Plain City Heritage Day. The event, which will run from 10 am to 4 pm at 445 South Jefferson Avenue (next to Der Dutchman Restaurant), will feature displays and products commonly seen in our area in the past. An emphasis will be on the Amish culture in Plain City with demonstrations on basket weaving, wood working/shed building, blacksmithing, and more. There will also be several cooking and food contests, as well as plenty of food and activities for children.

Additionally, beginning at 1 pm, you can get a feel for vintage baseball when The Ohio Village Muffins baseball team takes on the Long Johns, a team representing the Plain City Heritage Group and Der Dutchman.

There will also be a musical concert by Clear Run, featuring gospel songs, oldies, and lots of other favorite tunes.

After the pharmacy closes at noon on Saturday, parking for Heritage Day will be available in our parking lot, which is just across the street from the event.

For a full list of events, please visit the Plain City Heritage Group Event page HERE and Der Dutchman’s Event page HERE. Click on the flyer to enlarge it and read the full list of activities.

Weekend of May 20-21 Offers Bargains and History!

Whether you are looking for a good deal or a bit of history, Plain City will offer both on May 20 and 21.

On Friday, May 20 from 8:30 am to 5 pm and on Saturday, May 21 from 8:30 am to 3 pm, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church will hold their annual rummage sale with all proceeds benefitting the St. Joe’s Youth Group. The money raised will help fourteen Youth Group participants attend the 2011 National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) in Indianapolis in November.

The rummage sale will be be held at the Parish Activity Center (PAC), 670 West Main Street (behind the fire station).

Items can also be donated to the rummage sale by dropping off at the PAC on Tuesday, May 17 and Wednesday, May 18 between 9 am and 3 pm. Or call to set up other times for drop off.

For more information, contact Kelly Jacobs, 614-873-8850, ext. 18.

If you are looking for even more great deals, the Country Closet Thrift Shop, located at 299 South Jefferson Avenue (next to the bowling alley), will be holding a “Summer Stuff Sidewalk Sale” from 9 am to 3 pm on Saturday, May 21. So hit the church rummage sale and then visit the sidewalk sale for lots of eco-friendly (you are keeping these items from hitting the garbage dump) bargains.

Both sales also support good causes. The Country Closet Thrift Shop is one of many Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) endeavors in which the proceeds are used “locally and globally to meet basic human needs and work for peace and justice.” As their slogan says, “Where every purchase is a gift to the world.”

On Saturday, May 21, UPCO (Uptown Plain City Organization) and the Plain City Heritage Group (PCHG) are partnering to present Plain City Heritage Days. The event, which will run from 9 am to 4 pm in two locations both downtown and on Jefferson Avenue (next to Der Dutchman Restaurant), will feature displays and products commonly seen in our area in the past. An emphasis will be on the Amish culture in Plain City with demonstrations on basket weaving, quilt making, blacksmithing, and more.
