Revival of Plain City Farmers Market Needs Committee Members.

I recently had an email from Chris Long at the Plain City Public Library seeking help for the Plain City Farmers Market.

Chris told me that there were efforts underway to revive the Plain City Farmers Market. Jody Carney, the FFA teacher at Fairbanks High School, is paving the way and Chris has been helping her as everyone else has dropped out.  Jody is also a Plain City resident who wants to get involved in the community and is preparing her students to get involved, as well.  Village Council blessed a Farmers Market program so now it’s a matter of organizing and finding others to help.

Chris mentioned that she knew we carried a few locally made items in the pharmacy and she thought Joe and I might know some individuals who would be interested in serving on a Farmers Market committee.

So how about it?

Chris said that if there was anyone who would be willing to serve on a committee (this would involve a few meetings and committing to about five Monday evenings during market season) or who would like to vend their produce, baked goods, or hand crafted items (for pets, perhaps?), to please contact her by email at clong@plaincitylib.org or by calling the Library at 614-873-4912, ext. 23.

Odds and Ends for a Cold Tuesday!

This is just a reminder about several things going on around Plain City this week and in the coming weeks.

First off, the Plain City Historical Society will have their monthly meeting tonight, Tuesday, January 25, at 7 pm at 111 West Main Street. The program for January is “Moments in Time” by Jane Isaacs, the Pubic Services Librarian at the Plain City Public Library. Jane is always an interesting speaker, so it should be a delightful evening.

Speaking of the Plain City Public Library, they have several winter programs to keep your brain “fired up” even if the days are cold.

The Knitting Circle meets the first Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm at the Library. You are encouraged to bring current projects. The next Knitting Circle meeting is Tuesday, February 1.

Additionally, a CareerShop Workshop will meet next Monday, January 31, at 6:30 pm at the Library.

The Library is also collecting Legos for a Lego Club that will begin in the spring. Drop off your Legos at the library any time they are open!

For more info, visit the Library’s Calendar of Events HERE

The Plain City Business Association will have their monthly meeting Wednesday, January 26, at 8:00 am at the Der Dutchman restaurant. Meetings in “odd” months are at the Der Dutchman, while meetings in “even” months are at the Dutch Kitchen restaurant. Next month’s February meeting will be at Dutch Kitchen. Stop out and get involved in the Plain City community.

Don’t forget to KEEP CHEERING for Plain City in the Readers’ Digest “We Hear You America” Contest to help Plain City win a share of $5 million in funds and promotional support. All you have to do is log on and cheer up to 10 times each day for Plain City, OH. Once you have signed up, you just keep hitting the “Cheer” button until it tells you that you have cheered 10 times. There are 13 days left in the contest. We are currently at #69, up from #79!!

Go HERE to Cheer for Plain City. Yeah, Plain City!!

Online Writing Group Started By Plain City Public Library.

The Plain City Library has started The Plain City Writer’s Forum for amateur writers of adult and young adult fiction. There will be no meetings as everything will be done online. Submissions will be made at the first of the month, beginning in October. You submit and critique other submissions via a blog that has been set up especially for the Forum.

Space is limited to make this a more interactive group. You must register with Chris Long, the discussion moderator, at clong@plaincitylib.org if you would like to participate. You must have a current email address. Once you have registered, you will receive guidelines and access instructions for the blog.

Currently, there are only three people signed up for this group (two of which are me and Chris Long). So if you have any interest in this, please do contact Chris. We hope to not only critique and write, but to provide each other with support and information on writing, agents, publishing, and more.

Below is a list of books the library currently has pertaining to writing. If you click on the name of the book, you will be sent to the library’s catalog and you can reserve the book.

“From the Harvest to the Table” Program Presented by The Friends of the Plain City Public Library, Saturday, September 11.

I had an email from Chris Long at the library and this program has been cancelled due to lack of reservations. Joe and I have to be out of town this day or we would have attended. I think this sounds like such an excellent event that I am so sorry more people did not email or call for a reservation. Perhaps if everyone inundated Chris with interest in this, the library might be persuaded to put this back on the schedule. Want to give it a try? Then email Chris at clong@plaincitylib.org or call her at 614-873-4912, ext. 23.

The Plain City Public Library will be hosting a program, “From the Harvest to the Table,” on Saturday, September 11 from 7 pm to 8:30 pm to celebrate locally grown foods. A Plain City area culinary arts student, Nathan Endres, will prepare a sampling of appetizers and desserts, all made with fresh, locally grown ingredients. Some of the ingredients will even come from the library’s own garden! Those that do not come from the library garden will be recognized in a booklet the library is preparing that will list local growers and ingredients.

If the weather cooperates, the event will take place in the library’s garden with the sounds of woodwinds and string instruments vibrating in the evening air thanks to the musical talents of Classical Sounds. As you listen to relaxing classical music and nibble on Plain City fruits and vegetables, combined in creative culinary concoctions, you can also stroll through the Library Garden Project.

The Library Garden Project was funded by a grant from the State Library of Ohio. While you are being entertained, you can also learn about the vegetables, native plants, and the smart irrigation system that helps the plants in the garden flourish. Additionally, you can meet Hope, the horse topiary, and her other animal topiary friends (among my favorites are the pigs and the rooster).

A donation of $10 per person for this evening is appreciated to allow the Plain City Public Library to raise funds for other exciting programs (we have the best library around!).

Reservations are required as space is limited. You can contact Chris Long at 614-873-4912, ext. 23 or via email at clong@plaincitylib.org for more info or to reserve you spot at this tempting event.
