Please Welcome Torie VonSeggern Our Student Pharmacist for July at Happy Druggist on Karl Road.

This month, we are joined at Happy Druggist on Karl Road by Torie VanSeggern, a fourth-year pharmacy student from The Ohio State University’s College of Pharmacy.

Torie will graduate in May 2023 with her PharmD degree and will then take the test to become a registered pharmacist. Torie will be with Kristie and the staff on Karl Road throughout July, so please stop by and meet her while she is in the pharmacy.

Here is what Torie tells us about herself:

My name is Torie VonSeggern and I am currently a fourth-year pharmacy student at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy and I expect to graduate in May of 2023. I am very excited for the opportunity to work with the team at Happy Druggist and learn more about independent pharmacy practice!

I currently work as a student pharmacist for Walgreens Pharmacy and as the Lead Administrative Intern (student pharmacist) at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital. From my current jobs, I have had the opportunity to experience both the community setting and inpatient hospital setting of pharmacy.

Prior to pharmacy school, I completed my undergraduate studies at OSU and received a degree in the Bachelor of science in pharmaceutical sciences.

Before moving to Columbus for college, I was originally from a small town in Northwest Ohio called Bryan. Random fact: Bryan is the home of Spangler Candy Company which is known for its Dum Dums and we also used to make the Etch A Sketch!

From a very young age, I have always been fascinated by the medical field. Starting college, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in healthcare but I was not confident in what I truly wanted to do. It was not until my second year of undergrad at OSU that I found pharmacy.

During my second year of undergrad I went to a career fair where I was interviewed for a position as a pharmacy technician. After working as a pharmacy technician, I realized I loved the time that I was able to spend with patients. In addition I enjoyed listening to the pharmacists that I worked with help patients by answering questions about their medications, health concerns, and suggesting products that patients could use from over-the-counter. Prior to this experience I did not truly recognize how beneficial access to pharmacists can be to a patient’s overall health!

Although I am still considering a variety of positions within pharmacy, I am currently interested in pursuing a residency with the ultimate goal of working in ambulatory care, administration, or specializing in an area such as psych or oncology pharmacy. At this time I am still very open and interested in all of the opportunities that pharmacy has to offer and hope to narrow down my interests as I experience new areas of pharmacy over the next year of rotations. Ultimately, I hope to work in a position that allows me to help patients to the best of my ability and to also help and motivate those that I am working with.

Outside of school and work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, walking my dog, reading, watching movies, and trying new foods. In addition, I absolutely love coffee and I also love to travel and hope I will have more time to travel after graduating!

I am so grateful for this time I have with the team at Happy Druggist Pharmacy to learn more about the function of the pharmacy and I look forward to meeting and caring for all of the patients!
