It is time once again to help spruce up Union County after the ravages of snow, rain, and overgrown weeds have left their mark on the streets and sidewalks.

United Way of Union County is once again hosting Community Care Day 2016 on Tuesday, May 17, to allow volunteers to help with activities benefitting seniors, libraries, parks, and other community landmarks.

This is the 20th year for the Community Care Day. Last year, 600 volunteers came out to work on 115 projects throughout the county in a single day. Projects included washing windows, weeding gardens, landscaping parks, painting, and helping with food drives.

For a list of community projects you can help with, visit the United Way of Union County’s web site HERE.

Plain City Free Clinic Offers Free Medical Care for Eligible Patients.

The Plain City Free Clinic continues to be open most Saturday mornings. The sessions take place in Dr. John Adams’ medical office located at 480 South Jefferson Avenue (which is Route 42), Suite 500. Dr. Adams’ office is directly behind Plain City Druggist and across the road from Der Dutchman restaurant.

For patients meeting specific guidelines, free medical office visits are provided. Medical needs outside of routine office care are referred to other providers who have agreed to offer services at reduced costs or at no charge.

A person does not have to be a previous patient of Dr. Adams to use the Free Clinic.

The Plain City Free Clinic is a satellite office of the Madison County Health Partners, which additionally operates a free clinic in London, Ohio.

The eligibility guidelines to qualify as a Plain City Free Clinic patient are:

1. The person must be a resident of the Plain City area (live in either the Jonathan Alder or the Fairbanks School Districts).

2. Currently be without health insurance.

3. Meet a household income guideline (200% of the federal poverty level or below).

To qualify, the total household income for a family of four should be $41,000 per year or less.

Appointments are necessary for the Free Clinic and can be made by calling Charles or Zeta Holcombe at 614-873-8600.

For information, you can also email Charles at holcomcare@aol.com.

On clinic day, the patient needs to bring a photo ID and a proof of residency (utility bill, etc.). Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The clinic does NOT provide narcotics, controlled substances, or chronic pain control services.

Beyond basic healthcare, the following services will also be provided by community volunteers:

1. Information about community resources and services.

2. Help applying to Prescription Assistance Programs.

3. Referrals to appropriate community services, as needed.

4. Spiritual support if requested.

5. Financial vouchers to help pay for some prescriptions.

The Plain City Free Clinic is currently featured in the United Way 2013-2014 Giving Campaign, asking all of us to be a “Super Hero,” and “Live United.” Check out Dr. Adams, Charles Holcombe, and the Free Clinic crew in the United Way brochure under “Health & Human Services” HERE. Community Care Day is Tuesday, May 21! Pitch In!

It is time once again to help spruce up Plain City and Union County after the ravages of snow, rain, and overgrown weeds have left their mark on the streets and sidewalks. UPCO (Uptown Plain City Organization) is partnering with the United Way of Union County for Community Care Day 2013 on Tuesday, May 21, to not only clean up Plain City, but to also allow volunteers to help with other activities benefitting seniors, libraries, parks, and other community landmarks.

On Community Care Day, volunteers will meet at St. John’s Lutheran School (12809 State Route 736 in Marysville) from 7:45 to 8:30 am to get checked in. Breakfast will be provided and volunteers will receive a “Live United” t-shirt to wear. From 8:30 am to 5 pm, volunteers will move out through Union County to work on projects. Lunch will be served at Buffalo Wild Wings between noon and 1 pm.

Community Care Day is Tuesday, May 22.

It is time once again to help spruce up Plain City after the ravages of snow, rain, and overgrown weeds have left their mark on the streets and sidewalks. UPCO (Uptown Plain City Organization) is partnering with the United Way of Union County for Community Care Day 2012 on Tuesday, May 22, to not only clean up Plain City, but to also allow volunteers to help with other activities benefitting seniors, libraries, parks, and other community landmarks.

For 2012, Community Care Day is following in the footsteps of Princeton, Kentucky, a town that is pushing a “Let’s Paint the Town!” volunteer movement. Other towns are jumping on the paint bandwagon and finding volunteers to paint their towns. You can read a nice article about this idea HERE. For this Community Care Day, let’s Paint Plain City (as well, as helping with other much needed projects!).

UPCO is looking for people to coordinate events in the Plain City area. If you are interested in participating, please visit the UPCO web page HERE to find out more.
