47th Earth Day is Saturday, April 22.

Earth-Day-April-22-Card1

Those celebrating the 47th Annual Earth Day this year feel we are at a critical time for planet Earth. Climate change and the dire consequences of human pollution and consumption are ravaging our beautiful home.

It’s time to get involved and do all that you can to protect our planet on this Earth Day and every other day of the year.

Last year, the Earth Day Network called on activists to plant 7.8 billion trees across the planet as Earth Day heads toward its 50th Anniversary in 2020. The City of Columbus also has an initiative to plant 300,000 trees by the 2020 Earth Day weekend.

In 2017, the Earth Day Network has chosen a theme of Environmental and Climate Literacy.

Learn more about Earth Day and events you can participate in around Ohio by going HERE and HERE. Below are a few other activities that are taking place in Columbus and surrounding counties.

Save the Date!!! April 27 will be here soon!

We always know spring is here when the Plain City Lions Club auction finally arrives. This year, those fun-loving Lions are hoping you’ll join them the last Thursday of the month and raise money for their many, many service projects and local charities. This auction, which is filled with jokes and teasing along with tons of super buys, always leaves people with full bellies, giant smiles, and empty wallets (people bid often to help support a good cause!).

You can bid on several great items at the auction including: Four Michelin tires donated by Schrock Automotive, one skid of water softener salt donated by ASE Feed and Supply, a Stihl gas string trimmer donated by Hilliard Lawn and Garden, a Lake Erie perch dinner for the lucky buyer and twelve other family members and friends (courtesy of Captain and Lion Roger Weeks and his wife, Ann), front and rear brakes up to $450 in value by E & R Tires Plus, a hidden peg coat rack with a choice of several beautiful woods handmade and donated by Lion Perry Beachy, a 43 inch television donated by the London Wal-Mart, and an Adirondack Chair donated by Yutzy’s Farm Market.

The Lions Club Annual Dinner and Auction will be held on Thursday, April 27, in the Banquet room at Der Dutchman Restaurant in Plain City at 6:30 pm.

Tickets are $17, which includes a family style dinner and entry to the auction. The meal will be served at 6:30 pm. Doors open at 6 pm.

Tickets can be purchased at True Value Hardware (see Lion Perry Yoder) or here at the pharmacy (see Joe). The auctioneers this year are Geoff Smith, Frank Roby, Dan Westlake, and Jay Kurtz.

Meet Our Student Pharmacist for April, T’Bony Jewell, From The Ohio State University’s College of Pharmacy.

IMG_7833

This month, we are joined in the pharmacy and lab by T’Bony Jewell, a fourth year pharmacy student from The Ohio State University’s College of Pharmacy. T’Bony will graduate in May and will then take the test to become a registered pharmacist. She is also working to obtain her MBA! T’Bony will be with us throughout April, so please stop by and meet her while she is here. Show her the Plain City hospitality!

Here is what T’Bony has to say about herself:

My name is T’Bony Jewell, a fourth year student from The Ohio State University. I have spent the majority of my time working in community pharmacy serving the southern population of Columbus. I love the interactions that I get to have with patients during counseling sessions and getting to know them. My rotations so far have afforded me the opportunity to work in various pharmacy settings including an emergency department, small rural hospitals, and even in pharmacy association management. Working in so many different settings, I have found a love for process improvement and people development which led me to pursue a master’s degree in business administration.

Originally, I am from a small town in western Maryland, where my parents and brother still live. My sister is a bit closer, here in northeast Ohio. When I am not working or in class/rotations, I like to spend my time with family and friends. I have family in the Columbus area and have enjoyed being around to be a positive role model for my three young cousins. I also spend a lot of my time doing crafty DIY projects including dress making, painting, and decorating. Crafting provides me a way to be creative and simultaneously relieves stress.

I hope to break into pharmacy management in order to efficiently utilize pharmacy resources. Our patients and health care are the focus. I believe too many businesses forget that the bottom line is not always about profit, but how effective the care is that we provide. It is essential that patients have access to affordable care.

Plain City Druggist is the final of my nine rotations. The independent setting provides many opportunities to gain business planning and strategy experience.

I hope to quickly acclimate to your community and be a resource that you can reach out to during the month of April.
