Congratulations to Lauren Prochaska for Making 70 Consecutive Free Throws!

We just wanted to congratulate Lauren Prochaska on her incredible record of 70 straight free throws, an NCAA women’s record.

As someone who played a limited amount of basketball in Junior High and High School, I know just how tense things can get at the free throw line. But I cannot imagine trying to make those shots, like Lauren did, while on a shooting spree that was breaking every record on the books!

So congrats, Lauren, for keeping your poise and grace while under the eyes of the entire sports world. We are very proud you. And we know you’ll soon be setting another record that surpasses your current 70 in a row!

Lauren Prochaska Spends Time with the Union County Phoenix Basketball Team.

We’ve been telling everyone about our blog and to let us know about important things happening in the community. This story comes from our “guest blogger” Margie Henderson, whose daughter Michaela is a force to be reckoned with on the basketball court. The Union County Phoenix, of which Michaela is a member, is made up of girls from schools across Union County who play on this traveling basketball team. The team this year was comprised of a tough group of seventh graders.

Margie told us: “On the weekend of April 17, 2010, the Union County Phoenix competed in a GBA tournament at Bowling Green State University. As all of Plain City knows, Jonathan Alder’s own Lauren Prochaska is a member of BGSU’s basketball team and will begin her senior year in the fall.  Lauren was kind enough to come to a game and watch the Phoenix play.  Afterward, she talked to the girls, giving them her perspective on basketball and how much work it takes to be a successful college player.  All the girls loved Lauren and were thrilled that she came to see them.

“Lauren led the BGSU team this year in scoring and rebounding, with an average of 17.9 points and 5.7 rebounds. She was the Mid-American Conference’s Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, and the MAC tournaments MVP. She scored a school record 609 points this season, and as a junior, Lauren is already 3rd on BGSU career scoring list!”

Margie also said that Lauren kindly autographed basketballs, shoes, and other memorabilia for the girls so they could have something to remember Lauren’s visit and their tournament at Bowling Green. We know Lauren is a super athlete and this just shows what a super person she is, as well. Not every college athlete would take the time out of their busy schedule to support the much younger players of the Union County Phoenix–only someone who has come up through the ranks in the same way and hopes another hometown girl will shine at bright as she has. Only someone like Lauren Prochaska.
