The Plain City Farmers Market will have a special start date on Monday, July 4. For one Monday only, to coincide with the Fourth of July Parade at 3 pm in uptown Plain City, the Farmers Market will get started at 2 pm and continue immediately following the parade on Independence Day until about 5 pm.

Those who want to participate in the July 4 parade can line up at 2:00 pm at the north entrance of Pastime Park. The Parade will step off at 3:00 pm from the north entrance of the park, head south down Chillicothe, take a right at the traffic light, and then right onto Main Street. Kids on bikes do not need to register.

The gates at Pastime Park will open at 6 pm for the Fireworks display at 9:45 pm. The band Agent 99 will be performing at 7 pm and there will be food vendors available. Agent 99 is a cover band that plays 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s music. The event is free, but donations are accepted.

The Plain City Events Committee will be located in the Lions Building and will have a concession stand set up.

For more information on the Fireworks, visit the Village web site HERE and the events page on Facebook HERE.

Sponsored by The Uptown Plain City Organization (UPCO), the Farmers Market will take place every Thursday (beginning on July 7) after July 4th from 4:30-7 pm through October 6.

The Farmers Market is held at the corner of South Chillicothe and State Route 161 in Uptown Plain City (next to the Clock Tower building).

There will be music and lots of local vendors each week with “learn-and-taste” features.

Please shop locally and support our Plain City and Union/Madison County farmers by stopping by the Farmers Market.

Additionally, Marysville is holding their Farmers Markets on Saturdays through October 8 at Partners Park at the corner of Main and 6th Streets. The Markets run from 8 am to 11 am or until goods are sold out. For more information, call 937-644-8530.

Please join us this Saturday, December 5, for our Open House and Customer Appreciation evening from 5:30-8 pm during Christmas Under the Clock. We will have lots of food and the small glass bottles of soda that everyone loves.

Christmas Under the Clock is again being sponsored this year by UPCO (Uptown Plain City Organization) and the Village of Plain City.

Participating open house locations will be giving away lots of prizes, gifts, and refreshments. The more open houses you visit, the more chances you have to win. Pick up a map at the first open house you visit to locate all of the other places holding open houses.

Enter the raffle at each open house location to win a $250 Visa Gift Card from UPCO. The drawing for the card will take place at 8 pm at the DNA Building, 340 West Main Street (the old Elementary building). You do not have to be present to win the gift card.

You’ll also have an extra chance to enter the gift card raffle each time you ride one of the shuttle vans running from Lovejoy’s Market to Yoder’s Hardware between 5:30 and 8 pm. Enter one raffle slip per shuttle ride.

Please bring some non-perishable food items or toiletries for the Plain City Food Pantry, 156 West Main Street. Share your blessings this holiday season. If you drop off items for the food pantry at Clip N Curl Family Hair Care, 251 West Main Street, you will receive a $2 coupon for a service or a product.

Here at the drugstore, we will be giving away gift certificates to many local businesses. So stop in and sign up to win!

We’ll be raffling off gift certificates for:

While our Open House kicks off at 5:30 pm, Christmas Under the Clock actually gets under way at 5 pm with the Tree Lighting Ceremony downtown in Bicentennial Park (the Flatiron between Chillicothe and Main Streets). There will be local carolers, the Plain City Community Band, Starlight Twirlers (baton twirlers), and the Jonathan Alder Mixed Chorus at the Tree Lighting. DJ Tim Firlik will also help out with music and sound. The tree will be lit up by the Tree Lighting Pixies, winners of the Christmas Coloring Contest.

From 5:30 to 6:30 pm, the Plain City Community Band will perform in the plaza.

They will be followed by In Harmony Music Studio from 6:30 to 7 pm.

From 7 to 8 pm, the Sharon Mennonite Church Group will warm your spirits.

Once you’ve been dazzled by the tree lighting ceremony and entertainers, head over to the DNA Building, 340 West Main Street (the old Elementary building) for a Christmas Auction beginning at 7 pm. Proceeds from the auction will benefit UPCO (to continue funding the celebration each year). Auction items will be on display beginning at 5:30 pm. Items have been donated by local businesses.

While you wait for the Auction to get started, you can shop at the Crafter’s Only Show in the DNA Building from 5:30-8 pm. Get all of your holiday gift giving done in one stop and pick up some great home-made items.

On your way to see Santa and the Snow Princesses, stop by the Plain City Library, 305 West Main Street, for live music with Classical Sounds and the Friends of the Library’s Book and Novelty Sale. The sale will feature an enormous book sale in the library’s large meeting room, as well as holiday novelties and a selection of gift items made from recycled books including jewelry, bookmarks, buttons, and other unique creations. Kids 10 and Under Can Enter Coloring Contest for Christmas Under the Clock. Adults Can Enter Decorating Contest!

Christmas Under the Clock will be here before we know it. The annual happening falls on Saturday, December 1, this year. This is the 11th year for the holiday celebration and, while we love all the traditional aspects of this anticipated Village event, there are a few new traditions in the works.

Since 2010, the Village of Plain City and UPCO, the Uptown Plain City Organization, have chosen Tree Lighting Ambassadors to flip the switch to light the Bicentennial Park Christmas tree. The Ambassadors are the winners of the Christmas Under the Clock Coloring Contest. Children 10 and under can participate in the coloring contest. Mayor Sandra Adkins chooses the winners from three age categories: 5 years and under, 6-8 years, and 9-10 years. Children in the 43064 zip code are eligible to enter.

This year, besides the winners in the three age categories, two winners will be drawn randomly to produce five Tree Lighting Ambassadors. Each Ambassador will have their entry returned to them framed and with a prize ribbon.

To download and print out a copy of the coloring contest picture, go HERE.

You can also stop in Main Street Treasures to pick up a copy of the coloring contest form. Entries should be mailed to: Christmas Coloring, UPCO, P. O. Box 297, Plain City, Ohio 43064.

Entries must be postmarked by November 12. All winners must be available to participate in the tree lighting ceremony on Saturday, December 1, at 5 pm.

Additionally, there is a contest this year for those Christmas loving adults in Plain City. UPCO is holding the first Christmas Under the Clock Decorating Contest. The contest is open to residents and businesses within the Village corporation limits. The contest is being presented by QT1270 and Main Street Treasures and winners will be chosen by a panel of judges including QT1270 on air personality Pete Emmons. Winners will be chosen in three categories: Best Overall, Most Creative, and Best Use of Illumination.

To print out an entry form for the Decorating Contest, go HERE. Entry forms can also be picked up at Main Street Treasures or the Plain City Public Library. Mail your completed entry to: Christmas Decoration, UPCO, P. O. Box 297, Plain City, Ohio 43064. You can also drop the form off at Main Street Treasures or the Library. Entries must be turned in by Friday, November 23. Lights need to be turned on and decorations in place on Tuesday, November 27 and Wednesday, November 28 so the judges can pick the winners. Winners must be available for the awards ceremony at the Tree Lighting at 5 pm.

For a complete list of all the events taking place at Christmas Under the Clock on December 1, go HERE.

Once again, Plain City Druggist will be participating in the Business Open Houses, which begin at 5:30 pm. We will have food and drinks for our customers. We will also be registering attendees in the prize drawing for a $500 gift card and will have prizes of our own to give away!

Get ready for Christmas and Christmas Under the Clock!
