St. Joseph’s Catholic Church’s Fish Fry Fridays Return Friday, March 3.

Fish Fry 2017

It is that time of year again. Time to enjoy a fish meal each Friday during Lent. Once again Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church and the local Knights of Columbus will be holding their Friday Fish Fries every Friday through April 7. The Fish Fries will be held at the Parish Activity Center (the PAC), 670 West Main Street (behind the firehouse) from 5:30-8 pm.

Meals are $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, $6 for children 12 and under. Besides either two pieces of fried or baked fish (please request the baked fish if you would like it), the adult meal also includes soda or coffee, and two sides–cole slaw, fries, or macaroni and cheese. The child meal includes one piece of fish, two sides, and a beverage. Additionally, you can purchase homemade desserts for a donation that benefits the St. Martin de Porres Society.

Carry out service of the meals is also available.

The St. Joe’s Fish Fry was voted “The Best Fish Fry 2017” by the Catholic Times Fish Fry Guy! Scroll down to pages 17/23 to read the review, which also mentions Lovejoy’s Market! You can also read the review at the bottom of this posting.

So please come out this Friday, March 3, and support the Knights of Columbus. Join them each Friday (March 10, 17, 24, 31 and April 7) throughout Lent (excluding Good Friday on April 14) for a delicious meal and lots of enjoyable socializing with neighbors, friends, and family.

For more info, visit Saint Joe’s web site HERE and download the Bulletin HERE.

Christmas Events Around Plain City. Craft and Gift Show at the PAC. Christmas in The Village of Mechanicsburg. Pet Photos with Santa.

There are a few things going on locally this Saturday, December 11, to get you in a festive mood. First off, from 9 am to 2 pm on Saturday, there will be a Craft and Gift Show at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church’s Parish Activity Center (the PAC) located at 670 West Main Street (behind the fire station). Admission to this event is free. There will be over fifty vendors selling their wares. This would be a good opportunity to do a bit of shopping in one very local and easy-to-access location and mark a few more people off the never ending gift list. There have been signs up all over town about this event, so we hope you plan on attending.

The village of Mechanicsburg will be hosting their own version of our Christmas Under the Clock this Saturday, December 11. Called “Christmas in the Village,” (hey if you don’t have a clock in your town, you can’t exactly have Christmas Under the Clock) this annual event will feature the arrival of Santa (he must have been hiding out at Perry’s all week waiting to head over to Mechanicsburg), a Christmas Parade, and the opportunity to shop at an arts and crafts show. Finally, you can warm up with a bowl of chili at the Fire House Chili Supper. Since Mechanicsburg is only about 20-30 minutes from Plain City, this would be a nice activity close to home to get you ready for the holidays.

Christmas in the Village runs from 10 am to 8pm. For a full list of events for the Christmas celebration in Mechanicsburg, go HERE.

Finally, don’t forget about Photos with Santa at the PetSmart on Sawmill from 11 am to 4 pm on Saturday, December 11. A photo package (you receive a digital photo in a holiday frame) is $9.95 with your PetPerks card. $5 from every package sale goes to Black and Orange Cat Foundation. Santa this year will again be our own Chuck Gaul. So bring your pets and come visit Chuck and Carol and me and Joe as we help situate dogs and cats (and even a snake one year) on Chuck’s lap for a picture. We hope to see you there!

Chris Cakes Filled Bellies and Provided Entertainment. By Aggie Hall

The master pancake flipper, aka “Beefcake,” flipped his way to entertaining the crowds in Plain City Sunday morning at St. Joseph’s Parish Activity Center (the PAC).  Between his infectious humor and the quick flick of his wrist, he delighted all those in attendance.

Beefcake and Chris Cakes of Ohio have been to Plain City before, flipping at Jonathan Alder High School and the elementary school. Beefcake said that Plain City residents catch “quite” well in comparison to other towns he has visited.  The longest flip Sunday was around fourteen feet.  His longest flip ever was in Hilliard–a flip that covered a distance of forty-five feet and landed on the plate of a teen with a broken arm.

Chris Cakes is a local franchise. The original company is based out of Missouri. The local franchise owner is part owner in the entire company as well as their own local franchise.  Each franchise covers one state, and currently twenty states are served by Chris Cakes.  They are available for:  school and church events, corporate functions, and private parties.

Ron, aka “Beefcake,” said the key to a good flip is that “it’s all in the wrist.”  He has been flipping for about six years and started by practicing using a hot pad at home.  He was having such a good time on Sunday, interacting with the crowd, that it did not seem like work to him.

The experience not only filled your belly with delicious “air dropped” pancakes, but it put a new spin on interactive breakfast entertainment in Plain City.

Fun Facts:

Chris Cakes has made more than 30,000,000 pancakes, which if put end to end, would reach almost all the way around the world.

Has served pancakes to four presidents:  Obama, Clinton, Bush Jr.& Sr.

Join the Knights of Columbus on Sunday, November 14, from 8 am to noon for a pancake breakfast. The breakfast, which will take place at the Saint Joseph’s Parish Activity Center (the PAC), 670 West Main Street (just behind the fire house), will feature Chris Cakes of Ohio.

The menu will include pancakes, sausage links, orange drink, or coffee.

The price is $6 for adults and teens; $5 for seniors; $4 for children 5-12 years old; and FREE for children 0-4 years old.

The 10:30 Sunday Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s church at 140 West Avenue instead of at the PAC, as usual.
